100 Songs
That's how many will fit on my iPod shuffle. About 100 songs. October 9th I'm done here, leaving, traveling for a month, unable to change what songs are on there. So, I guess, this blog is the search for the best 100 song mix, songs you can enjoy anywhere, anytime, no matter what your mood is, or what you're doing. Any genre, but not too heavy on one artist.

Music: The Musicening
I am not sure why I was asked to contribute to this, as I am mentally handicapped at music. I have been listening non-stop to Rob Zombie's Dragula for the past 8 years and have no plan to stop.
I have, however, just started sorting through all my music (for working with an iPod, I recommend Media Monkey) and have been compiling down the most listenable music to a single playlist. I will contribute from this list the songs best suited to this project.
My first recommendation is that in the playlist, you have Dragula by Rob Zombie, copied 100 times. As you drift through the forgotten backwoods of Europe (a.k.a. Eastern Europe, Europe's "Florida Panhandle", as it were) you constantly rock out to this song, sporting the death metal salute on both hands, quietly whispering the lyrics with complete and total enthusiasm. On the train, if anyone ever stares at you, meet their gaze, and continue rocking out to the song, never letting up, only growing in intensity.
If you do not like this first recommendation, I guess here are some songs to consider. I was independently working on this list before I got the invite here, so if any of these duplicate someone else's picks, consider them to be a second to their motion:
1) Second to their Motion - Peter Gabriel I just this moment made up this song
2) Anger Management - Lovage Here it is live at The House of Blues (the studio mix is much better)
3) Mysterons - Portishead
4) Woke up this Morning - Alabama 3 Some people may think the Sopranos ruined this song. I do not, since I never had HBO. You want the full, original version, not just the Sopranos opening mix.
5) Dress Sexy at My Funeral - Smog Micah this was on a mix you gave me. I am giving it back to you
6) Solitary Man - Johnny Cash This song will make you feel like a righteous drifter even though you are really scum
7) We Both go Down Together - The Decembrists
8) The Southside of the World - Will Oldham I would not be very sanguine either if I were named after Old Ham
9) Moon Dance - Van Morrison
10) Gonna Shoot You Right Down - Muddy Waters Micah I will never forgive you for killing Muddy Waters, never
10) Desperado Theme - Los Lobos I am unsure if this is the actual name
11) When it Hits my Blood - John Vanderslice I got hit by a car crossing the road last week, but luckily it only hit my blood
12) Downtown Train - Tom Waits
(now stuff I actually listen to)
13) Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2) [REMIX] - Class of '99
14) Rock is Dead - Marilyn Manson
15) Map Of The Problematique - Muse
16) The Beginning is the End is the Beginning - Smashing Pumpkins Here it is on youtube, make sure to see the version in the Watchmen trailer.
17) Red Right Hand - Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds
18) Heresy - Nine Inch Nails
19) Dragula - Rob Zombie (Matrix Soundtrack mix)
20) Memories Can't Wait - Talking Heads
Bonus: Man with the Hex - The Atomic Fireballs
Bonus x2: Bails of Cocaine - Reverend Horton Heat

Put this in your pipe and smoke it
OK -
There are some really obvious songs here, and I don't care. Eat me.
Purple Rain - Prince - because this is a guaranteed brawl
Crossroads - Cream - Clapton is God
The Thrill is Gone - B.B. King - Lucille is pretty
Ooh La La or Stay With Me - The Faces - Rod at his fun earliest, and a good compliment to downtown train
Black Magic Woman - Santana -
Cherub Rock - Smashing Pumpkins
Whistlin'past The Graveyard or Tango Till They're Sore - Tom - there's still time.
This Must be the Place, this or Crosseyed and Painless (from Stop Making Sense) - Talking Heads - these are the non-Wild Wild Life songs that you want.
Have a Cigar - Pink Floyd - don't diss it b/c it's been heard a million times.
Starlings Of The Slipstream - Pavement
Spottieottiedopalicious - Outkast - good for, in case you manage to finally get some ass.
Dissect or Full Grown - JSBX
Glad Tidings - Van Morrison
My Name is Jonas - Weezer
The Sounds of Science - Beastie Boys
Ground on Down - Ben Harper (from Live on Mars, D.1) - this guitar rips
Talk on Indolence - The Avett Brothers - Makes you feel real good about getting loaded.
Stop Breaking Down - The White Stripes
No Quarter or The Ocean - Led Zep

Bands I Really Used To Like That Are Dead To Me Now
this is the problem with a top mix - there's all these bands i used to like tha i don't listen to anymore, but i still feel compelled to put them on there. all the memories we have together, it's a little sad.
primus is dead to me.
so is les claypool. twice dead, i guess.
white stripes? i still like this song. offend in everyway. or do i? damn you brain.
weezer, dead.
stephen malkmus, dead.
blonde redhead, dead.
dead kennedys, fighting the urge to make a bad pun here.
faith no more, firewater, this is your notice. the cold hand of death is on your shoulder.
beck, we just don't communicate anymore. we may need to see other people.

You are a great friend, and I love you. Not like that.
Primus.
A smattering of Wilco - Kamera, perhaps?
Dig into something old, too:
Blind Faith "Can't Find My Way Home"
Canned Heat - On the Road Again, Amphetamine Annie or Fried Hockey Boogie
Some kind of Paul Simon, too.
And Tool Booth Willie, from Adam Sandler's seminal classic, a masterwork in itself with fansatical displays of voicing and comedic genius, the album known as They're All Going to Laugh at You.

to 10
I will have to give some thought to Morphine. You're right, I definitely need a Morphine song.
Metallica, probably not, haven't really cared for anything they've done since the black album, except that there was this one song about having sex with a goat or something - I forget the name, from garage inc., amusing, but not going on the mix.
8. Leonard Cohen - I'm Your Man
9. Violent Femmes - Hallowed Ground
10. Pixies - Is She Weird?
Frank Black? My Favorite Kiss or If It Takes All Night. Maybe both.

"Cold Water" - Tom Waits
"Welcome to the Jungle" - GnR
"Help Me Scrape the Mucous Off My Brain," "Buckingham Green" - Ween

What i got so far
1. Radiohead - Black Star
2. Stereophonics - Dakota
3. Elliott Smith - Between the Bars
4. Cold War Kids - We Used to Vacation
5. Flaming Lips - Lightning Strikes the Postman
6. Pavement - Harness your Hopes
7. Smog - Hit the Ground Running
I'm thinking Ween, Tom Waits, John Vanderslice, but which ones? And does Modest Mouse make the cut? I really used to like them. They were once one of my top 5 favorite bands, but have we grown apart (sniff)?
